BBQ Fun Day at Friar Park !
101 people from Friar Park enjoyed a half-term treat at the Open Heaven Church on Crankhall Lane.
Thanks to the support of Pastor Nic and her Church volunteers and the generosity of Calor in the Community the building was open for 3 hours for children’s activities and ” barbecue bingo”.
“BBQ bingo” is bingo with a difference and an easy game to play – visit every stall/display in the room, answer 6 questions, learn about the Friar Park Project services on offer, the completed bingo card can then be exchanged for healthy home- made food from the BBQ.
The smoothie-making bike, loaned from West Bromwich Leisure Centre proved to be very popular and a good way to encourage kids to get their 5-a-day. Other popular children’s activities were the craft – table and face-painting provided by the Friar Park Children’s Centre and Open Heaven.
Janet Foster, Friar Park Project, Community Co-ordinator said “ Thanks to the support from the CAB energy advice service, 6Towns Credit Union, Think Sandwell employment advice service and the Welfare Rights Team at Sandwell Council, adults were able to find information about the services on offer in the area from health and well-being, exercise, money-management, money-saving tips and employment opportunities at the Lidl regional Distribution Centre” “ It was great day and pleasing to see so many local families enjoying a family information event and the support from our volunteers was invaluable”
