Types of membership

Types of membership

In the first instance we envisage three broad classes of membership.

1. Full members With Voting Rights

Voting membership will be open to Third Sector organisations in Sandwell who ‘primarily operate in and distribute their financial surpluses primarily in the local authority area of Sandwell and its environs’ who also meet certain technical criteria:

  • Provision of Community Services
  • Working With local ‘micro’ community organisations & groups
  • Information management capability
  • Minimum threshold for quality assurance
  • Commitment to consortium working

Full details are set out in the Membership Prospectus in relation to technical criteria which is designed to ensure that full membership is available to organisations who are capable of delivery to a certain thresholds of quality.
The Commitment to the Consortium is equally important and in particular in agreeing to membership organisations are signing up to:

  • Interest in, support for, and promotion of the development and furtherance of the consortium as a whole and not just the respective agendas or vested interests of individual member organisations.
  • To be open and transparent in their involvement in consortium affairs.
  • To acknowledge conflicts of interest at an early stage in relation to potential bid applications and to treat the Sandwell Consortium as a first port of call in relation to submitting partnership bid for competitive fund/grant/contracts.
  • To operate with integrity, be aware of representing the consortium, not just your own member organisation. Seeking out for examples opportunities for eh consortium as a whole, looking at ways to enhance the Consortiums Development.
  • Actively participating in initiatives that will build the capacity of the Consortium.
  • Investing and inputting time, ideas, information, resources & commitment into the further development of the consortium and into joint tenders and funding applications.

2. Associate Membership

Associate membership is also aimed at Third Sector organisations in Sandwell who ‘primarily operate in and distribute their financial surpluses primarily in the local authority area of Sandwell and its environs’.

It is however aimed at organisations that would not yet meet but aspire to the technical requirements of full members in relation to:

  • Information management capability
  • Minimum threshold for quality assurance
  • Working With local ‘micro’ community organisations & groups

But aspire to meet them.
There are no voting rights for Associate Members, but you will still be able to be part of bid submissions as delivery partners appropriate to your current ability to deliver. And in addition, the Consortium will encourage and enable support to help your organisation rech the requirements to become full members. The Commitment to the Consortium requirements remain as for Full members.

3. Affiliate membership

There are number of Affiliate categories of membership:

  1. Third sector organisations who do not primarily operate in or invest their surpluses in Sandwell
  2. Statutory Organisations
  3. Private sector Companies
  4. Individuals

There are no voting rights for Affiliate Members. There will however be the benefit of being kept aware of the Consortiums activities, through newsletters, regular emails, access to its website and with it opportunities to become a partner in certain bids depending on the bidding requirements and your areas of expertise.
