Community Health Worker
Salary circa £22,000 pro rata (circa £11,500 half time) – Initially Fixed term for 12 months
We are looking for an enthusiastic Community Health Worker to provide community based healthy lifestyle support as part of a multi-agency estate based project.
Working in partnership with Friar Park Millennium Centre and Friar Park Children’s Centre, Sandwell Council as part of a small multi agency team you will deliver a mix of healthy lifestyle and health promotion services – encouraging physical activity, reducing obesity, improved diet and healthy eating helping to keep people healthier for longer and to encourage families to provide a healthy start for their children.
Your work will be part of a wider mix of community services – job readiness/employment support, welfare benefits community development and healthy lifestyles services.
You will engage and work with local people and groups to help them to find ways to decide and sustain activities that improve their health.
As part of the wider team you will help improve address wider issues that improve quality of life – low income and poverty, employment, improved financial confidence, strengthen sense of local community.
Funded by Sandwell Council Public Health you will lead on enabling and directly delivering activities than encourage changes in lifestyle and behaviour in areas a wide range of areas e.g. diet, physical activity, alcohol use, encouraging take up of free health checks, improving school readiness for children . We are looking for
- Passion and skills to make things happen and to hit the ground running.
- Experience in enabling, developing and delivering healthy lifestyles activities
- Self-motivated, a good communicator, who loves working with in partnership with local agencies and residents.
Working at the heart of the community within the Friar Park area of Wednesbury as part of a small multi-disciplinary team, engaging local people to become active in finding ways to meet their needs and aspirations, develop their skills and talents and strengthen a sense of community.
