37 hours per week

Grade F –  £30,984 – £35,336 pro rata dependent upon experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with Sandwell Children’s Safeguarding Partnership – (SCSP)   

I write to offer colleagues across the Voluntary and Community, Health, Police, Sandwell Children’s Trust and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council; both permanent or interim staff, who feel they have the relevant skills and knowledge, the opportunity to apply for the interim Community Sector Safeguarding Engagement Officer role.

The Community Sector Safeguarding Engagement Officer will be employed on a 1 year fixed term contract which will be reviewed close to the end of the term.

The role will be pivotal in supporting the SCSP to build sustainable relationships with, and support our voluntary, community, faith-based organisations and increase public understanding of ‘Safeguarding being everybody’s responsibility’ with the aim of improving outcomes for children, young people and families across Sandwell.

The primary purpose of the Community Engagement Safeguarding Officer will be:

  • To have a key/lead role in progressing the activities of the SCSP in relation to safeguarding, including the Early Help and Prevention intervention to support effective day-to-day safeguarding practice across the voluntary community and faith-based sectors.
  • To build capacity, create networks both internal and external to the voluntary sector organisations in Sandwell, to empower community groups to understand and uphold their safeguarding obligations.  This will include providing and/or creating educational resources, tools and training and enabling collaboration and partnerships in order that organisations reflect sound and sustainable safeguarding practices.
  • To be the ‘trusted, approachable, knowledgeable ‘go to’ resource for VCS groups in Sandwell so local, small and grassroot organisations feel supported, equipped and empowered to understand and respond to safeguarding concerns and the needs of the children/young people and families they are working with.

 

To fill this role, we are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our business support team.  A candidate with experience of working in/with voluntary sector arena and have some understanding of the local safeguarding issues and challenges across all these groups, and knowledge and understanding of Sandwell’s 6 Towns and the local needs would also be desirable.
